What they do
- Establish infant feeding/sleep routines, diapering, swaddling, soothing
- Overnight care so parents can sleep
- Educate parents on newborn cues, safe sleep, pumping/formula best practices
- Light baby-related tasks: bottle sanitizing, baby laundry, nursery organization
- Postpartum recovery support for parents (emotional support, resources)
Typical setting
- In-home for the first 12–16 weeks (sometimes longer)
- Night shifts, 8–12 hours; some day support for coaching
Qualifications
- NCS training/certifications (various reputable programs)
- CPR/First Aid (infant)
- IBCLC for clinical lactation support (if applicable)
- Vaccinations often requested (Tdap, flu)
Scope & boundaries
- Not a medical provider unless licensed; cannot diagnose or treat
- “Night nurse” title can be regulated—use accurate titles
